Luis Figo is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of his generation. In 2000, Luis won the sport’s highest individual honor when he was crowned FIFA World Player of the Year. Recognized by FIFA again in 2004, he was named to its top 100 list of the world’s greatest living players. Luis captained his country to fourth place at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Luis won a Portuguese national record of 127 caps during his legendary career. He is one of the few football players to play for arch rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid during his 20-year career. After having won the Scudetto in each of his four seasons with Inter Milan, Figo retired. He was awarded a commemorative cap and medal by UEFA to mark his century of international appearances.
