Born in Zambia, George moved to Australia when he was one year old. He has made the second-most appearances for a national team in rugby history, starring for the Wallabies from 1994-2007. He helped lead them to a World Cup victory in 1999, Tri-Nations wins in 2000 and 2001 and Bledisloe Cup triumphs in 1994, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. He was also captain for the 2002 Bledisloe Cup victory and 2003 Rugby World Cup final extra-time loss. George played Super Rugby for Canberra’s Brumbies from 1996 through 2007, leading them to overall victories in 2001 and 2004.
He was appointed a member of the Order of Australia in 2004 for his services to Rugby Union Football, inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2009 and the IRB Hall of Fame in 2013.
